S/V Denis Sullivan is forging connections between:
  • the Great Lakes and the oceans
  • freshwater and salt water ecosystems
  • explorers onboard, on shore and on-line.
The S/V Denis Sullivan looks like a 19th century ship, but operates with a 21st century mission: to inspire people of all ages to explore our freshwater world.

Traveling from the Great Lakes to the Caribbean Sea and back, the Denis Sullivan is a dynamic, mobile educational platform for students on board, and now — through this Web site and associated interactive programs — with students on shore and on-line.

Built to capture both the wind and the imagination, the Denis Sullivan is equipped with digital satellite communications technology and 802.11 wireless capability for video broadcasting. She also features a science lab and tools (ponar, YSI Sonde, plankton nets and water quality testing equipment), the latest navigational tools (radar, sonar, GPS) and an on-board Education Officer.
