Virtual Voyage is an interactive Web site where your students can be part of a great adventure — a virtual, year-long field trip with the S/V Denis Sullivan as she travels through the Great Lakes to the Caribbean Sea and home again. The voyages of the Denis Sullivan can expand the boundaries of your classroom by bringing the world to your students. Through interaction with the Virtual Voyage, your students can engage with science, history and exploration in the real world in real time.
Our Virtual Voyage website includes daily reports from the ship, video clips, and in the near future, streaming video, message boards, and interactive broadcasts. Activities and lesson plans are included on the site. These activities utilize the website as a starting point for many investigations. Activities and lessons are multi-disciplinary and support Wisconsin Academic Standards.
Topics for Exploration
There is no one way to use the website and the accompanying activities. You may want to use the Virtual Voyage for whole class instruction, small teams, or individual work. Or all of the above. Our site is a resource for a variety of information and activities. You may choose a few activities or lessons that fit with your curriculum or decide to follow the Denis Sullivan for the entire 8-month voyage.
